A few words from Peter

My retirement is approaching after more than 45 years of service. In March 2027, I will retire from my clinical position at the Department of Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Diseases, Herlev and Gentofte University Hospital.

However, I will not be leaving everything behind. My academic and scientific work will continue for some years, as I will be appointed Professor Emeritus at the University of Copenhagen. My journey with endosonography began in 1985, when I had the opportunity to visit Dr. Lok Tio at the Academic Medical Center (AMC) in Amsterdam. It has been a wonderful journey, and I have truly enjoyed being part of the development of endosonography and, in particular, EUS-guided interventions over the past decades. I would like to mark the end of my clinical career with a farewell symposium and have the great pleasure of inviting friends and colleagues who have accompanied me throughout this journey, shared my passion for endoscopy and EUS, and contributed to the field along the way.

The symposium will also reflect some of the areas that have been particularly important to me throughout my career, including the development of EUS and my commitment to improving sedation and the patient experience during endoscopic procedures.

It would be a great pleasure to celebrate this milestone together with you.

I very much look forward to seeing you!

Peter Vilmann
