Measurement of airway inflammation during acute respiratory symptoms

The project

Children with acute symptoms of asthma or pneumonia with either bacteria or virus get identical symptoms such as breathlessness, shortness of breath and cough, which can be difficult to distinguish for the pediatrician, who should initiate proper treatment.

This project attempts to distinguish the type of inflammation of the respiratory tract from these acute conditions with a new filter paper method that can measure a wide variety of substances from the immune system.

The participants are children and adolescents with and without asthma from the Danish birth cohorts COPSAC2000 and COPSAC2010.
