Quality indicators - annual report 2024: New types of medical treatments

An overview and status of quality indicators during the past year. The report also serves as a tool to ensure that the unit meets OECI quality requirements.​

New Medical Treatments Approved in 2024

  • Keytruda (pembrolizumab) in combination with chemotherapy for patients with inoperable locally advanced or metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (PD-L1 CPS ≥10) without prior systemic treatment for metastatic disease.
  • Lynparza (olaparib) with bevacizumab for first-line maintenance treatment of advanced ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer in patients with high-grade epithelial carcinoma and homologous recombination deficiency (HRD+), but without BRCA1/2 mutations (BRCAwt).
  • Ayvakyt (avapritinib) for gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) with a D842V mutation in PDGFRA where the disease is inoperable or metastatic.
  • Imfinzi (durvalumab) with gemcitabine and cisplatin for first-line treatment of advanced bile duct and gallbladder cancer.
  • Tagrisso (osimertinib) as adjuvant treatment for EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer after surgery.
  • Keytruda (pembrolizumab) as adjuvant treatment for kidney cancer with high recurrence risk post-nephrectomy.
  • Enfortumab vedotin for adult patients with locally advanced or metastatic urothelial cancer previously treated with platinum-based chemotherapy and a PD-1/L1 inhibitor (second line). For patients with performance status 0 or 1.
  • Two treatments for extensive-stage small cell lung cancer:

                                   - Imfinzi (durvalumab) with chemotherapy

                                    - Tecentriq (atezolizumab) with chemotherapy
                                       (Recommendations apply to patients in good general condition – performance                                                     status 0 or 1)

  • ​Opdivo (nivolumab) with platinum-based chemotherapy (gemcitabine and cisplatin) for first-line tre​atment of patients with locally advanced or metastatic urothelial carcinoma (bladder and urinary tract cancer). For patients in good general condition (performance status 0 or 1).

New guidelines/instructions (VIP) include:

  • Treatment of medullary spinal cord compression
  • Nausea management in medical cancer treatment
  • Management of skin toxicity from EGFR  - treatment
  • All newly released national quality database reports have been reviewed. Exsample: Selected Results from National Clinical Databases
  • New standards in the Head and Neck cancer database have been assessed, but results are pending further follow-up.

A 5-year survival analysis was conducted for all patients with metastatic disease receiving first- and second-line treatments. Survival is at or above international standards (Appendix 4).5-Year Survival for Patients with Metastatic Disease
