National health requirements and recommendations
The planning and organisation of health care services and hospital planning take place with-in the framework of national health requirements and recommendations. Responsibility for the health care area is divided between the state, region, and municipality. The Danish Health Authority is the highest health authority in Denmark and assists the Minister of Health, in addition to providing advice to other state, regional and municipal authorities.
A. The State determines the overall health policy values, goals, and framework for the pub-lic health service, including the framework for the hospital area.
B. The 5 regions run the hospitals and are responsible for general practitioners and private specialist clinics.
C. The municipalities are responsible for prevention, care, rehabilitation (not during hospital-ization), and home nursing etc.
