Epidemiology, genetics, proteomics, bioinformatics – systems biology with focus on type 1 diabetes and beta-cell function. Long-standing involvement in Type 1 diabetes genetics. Has been involved in identification of several T1D susceptibility loci and was amongst the first to address the functional aspects of these. My group was also one of the first to use proteomics to address the pathogenetic processes in the beta cell leading to T1D development.
Main research areas
During the last few years the research focus has specifically on translating observations from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) into understanding type 1 diabetes (T1D) pathogenesis. A specific focus area is to explore the role of non-coding RNA (ncRNAs) both in diabetes and other diseases. Working on developing integrative approaches for combining GWAS data with expression data and protein interaction data to prioritize genes/proteins to test in both the laboratory and clinic.
